The Pilgrim's Progress

John Bunyan · 1678
ProtestantBritish

Christian sets off from the City of Destruction with a great burden on his back. He falls into the Slough of Despond, loses his load at the Cross, fights the monster Apollyon, passes through Vanity Fair, and comes at last to the Celestial City. Bunyan wrote it in Bedford jail; a child who meets it at twelve or thirteen can still feel the road under his feet.
