Caps for Sale

A peddler walks through town with seventeen caps stacked on his head — "Caps! Caps for sale! Fifty cents a cap!" He naps under a tree and wakes to find them gone. The monkey-in-the-tree resolution is one of the great read-aloud payoffs.
